Are there community's that still participate in a trade of homes across the country to keep the prices under control, or any programs similar? That would be interesting to hear about, thanks MSN.Smile                                      We live in Columbus Ohio, anyone interested (New Albany, Ohio)

Santa Monica was an affordable place to buy a house about 50-100 years ago!

Yet the lack of affordability doesn't prevent "transplants" from flocking to Santa Monica or the Westside of LA seeking their fortune and fame in the entertainment industry.

Between the beaches, ocean views, and high demand for housing, Santa Monica is a small politically correct city with sky high rents/property values.

Half of the residents were born outside of Cali...

The median income for HP Texas is $373,000, not $228,000 and the median home price is 1.6 million, not $210,000 with most median prices over 2.5 million.  There are a lot of houses in the 5 million to 25 million range.   There is no such thing as a house in HP Texas for under 1 million because i have been searching for it.

As for your HP Texas Stats.  Someone has no idea what they are talking about.  If the median home price is $210,000, then where do I sign up?  My family and I have been trying for years to get into HP, but it seems to be out of our reach and they sell empty lots for 5 million dollars.

I grew up in lake highlands which is where the kids of the people that don't still live in highland park, preston hollow, or prestonwood live and I tell you it isn't a suburb of anything. It is literally in the middle of dallas. All of it is dallas county anyway.

When the cowboys played in irving. To us that's dallas to because it's dallas county. You are 5 minutes out of downtown dallas. To imagine highland park think of an entire neighborhood of mitt romneys. How can people that make 200k a year afford a 30k a month ($360,000 a yr) mortgage? No one pays all their taxes or reports all their money.

For fun look how they busted a lot of people a few years ago getting welfare and food stamp checks delivered to these multi-million dollar houses.

In Winchester, Virginia, one  family, Charles Pine and daughter Kim Burke have built a city within our city with huge housing developments and commercial rentals, all pretty much  connected to hugh  parcels of land.  Very professionally done by truly wonderful  local citizens.

New Jersey has a number of these 'doughnut hole' towns. They evolved for several reasons including major road intersections, railroad stations, to put in and operate schools, municipal water and later sewer systems, electircal service. Sometimes it was due to developers or a major owner of a large property wanting control.

Some evolved unforuntally to set themselves separate from surround cities for racial segeration. Others to keep valuable property tax revenues to themselves and from the surrounding city.

How could you forget about Paradise, NV?  Not many people realize that the portion of the Las Vegas strip where the major casinos are located is NOT in Las Vegas.  From wiki:

"Paradise contains McCarran Airport, UNLV, and most of the Las Vegas Strip, including well-known hotels such as Caesars Palace, the Palms, and the MGM Grand. Therefore, many tourists visiting the Las Vegas area actually spend most of their time in Paradise, rather than in the City of Las Vegas. Despite this, Paradise remains relatively unknown, since “Paradise, NV” does not appear in postal addresses. The US Post Office has assigned “Las Vegas, NV” as the place name for the zip codes containing Paradise. Nonetheless, if Paradise were to be incorporated, it would be one of the largest cities in Nevada."

We should not leave out the town of Trent Woods located in the small picturesque town of New Bern, N. C. where the first capital of N. C. was located along the lovely Trent River.

Dude, these cities within cities are everywhere!  They can't list them all.  In my city of Sacramento, there are at least 5, and if you drive down to the LA or Bay area, there are so many that you don't even know which city you are in half the time.  I really think the LA area probably has the most of anywhere.

I liked the article, but I expected to see Bellaire, TX which is surrounded by Houston. Houston surrounds several cities. Hedwig Village is another.
