Have to add my skepticism to your list. Grew up in Hoboken as a faculty brat at Stevens when it was the town of "On the Waterfront." It's come a long way today with a great waterfront promenade. Now live in Bryn Mawr. Sorry, not much to that town; it's mostly a Mainline bedroom. And you overlooked the absolutely best college town in the USA and possibly the world--New York, NY.

Most of these are ciities and not towns.   Why not list NYC or LA for that matter.

No Athens, Georgia?  The band and bar scene is incredible.

No Tuscaloosa, Alabama?   You have not been to a college football game till you've been to the quad and Bryant-Denny

No Oxford, Mississippi?  They may not have invented tailgating in The Grove in Oxford, but they have made it an art form

No Baton Rouge, Louisiana?  Dude!  It's Baton Rouge!  They set off richter scales there.  What else needs to be said?

At this point all I can guess is the msn list was made by some stupid yankee that likes wandering around in icy slush or California smog. Dumb phucker.

I am surprised to not see Providence,  Rhode Island on your list.  With many of the top schools: Brown, Providence College, Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson and Whales, Salve Regina.  There are many top restaurants in many different unique areas, one particular area is Federal Hill which used to be a popular hangout for the cities mobsters. Providence, itself has been on a growth spurt over the last decade.

I haven't traveled enough to call BS on this but I know that Tampa (USF, UT, even HCC) w/ Ybor city should be in top 25. Also I know a lot of people have told me about Austin,TX, which, while I don't like the State itself, has some of the coolest people I've ever met.

Santa Cruz #7? I lived there 20 years. Great Hippy town. Exciting, not the word that comes to mind.

I CALL BULL.  NOT one is in South, which has the best weather (other than potentially Cali, and has the longest history of having these "exciting" party areas...

Greenville, NC, with East Carolina...HELLO...

Gainesville, Florida...There's not 1 place listed on this list that comes close to it.

OH, and IF the author had a CLUE, whatsoever...he'd have the Triangle area of North Carolina...

Specifically, Chapel Hill's famous/infamous Franklin Street...that's where UNC, Duke and NC State students regularly hang out, with tons of things happening...Insane to leave that out.

Greeley, Colorado, should easily be a top 5 college town. Not even top 10??? AWFUL list again, MSN...

How about Santa Barbara; UCSB/ Isla Vista, CA? It's got a population density that's almost equal to Boston. Some of the best, most scenic beaches (surfing/ kayaking) in the country, mountains (camping/ hiking/ mountain biking) galore and a great downtown with events happening all the time. Plus Isla Vista recently hosted its second mass murder event in the towns history. Also, a massive riot broke out in April at the annual Deltopia party. Doesn't get ANY more exciting than that.

Please don't forget Ithaca College when speaking of Ithaca.

Where in the world did you come up with this list?! What happened to the heart of the country in between the coasts?  I live in an awesome college town in the Midwest and sincerely believe that many of the towns listed here don't hold a candle to all the things we enjoy here, from the art scene to the many sports and fine arts opportunities, to the beauty of the landscape, to the low to non-existent crime rate, to the great restaurants and bars that are locally owned and operated, to the unique shopping places (also locally owned) that do NOT include a mall, to a thriving downtown area that is home to many sculptures, buskers, street vendors, many art-related events, and bike-friendly streets throughout.  We have a beautiful lake on campus and another larger one on the outskirts of town for fishing, boating, water sports and a yearly rock festival, 33 city parks, many many places to worship, lots of innovative and diversified schools, a huge Art Center with all its programs year-round and an outstanding community theater--all in a town of less than 100,000 people. Everyone who comes to visit us here is blown away.  I guess we'll just have to fly under the radar out here and enjoy our little secret awhile longer...

What a joke.. Typical MSN drivel.  Boston and Cambridge = Boston. Oakland/Berkeley... really? Bryn Mawr? Seriously? How about Austin, TX? Athens, GA? San Diego? San Francisco? (definitely over Berkeley)
Jun 1, 2014 9:15AM
Why not also list Ithaca College when mentioning Cornell University? Someone needs to do their homework.
