Any city you want advice on from the natives can be found at <citi-data.com>   Cost of living, crime, etc.

One of the nicest places is Colorado Springs..(the north sector.)

well, now that the person that wrote this has everyone's attention, I would like to know where the jobs are- we rank lowest in unemployment, where should I move to?

Just driving down the beautiful Las Vegas Strip at night is more fun than ANYTHING you can do in AZ and it's FREE. There are restaurants and accommodations here in all price ranges. There are state and national parks for hikers and boating on Lake Mead for non-casino types and families. Unlike HI or AK, Las Vegas is within driving distance of most states west of the Mississippi and doesn't require airfare, security hassles, lost luggage and snowed in status at the Denver airport in winter. You don't have to gamble away your savings or buy pricey show tickets to have a good time here (but you can if you want to) and the weather is usually wonderful. Except in the summer. It's almost as hot as AZ.  Oh, BTW, wasn't Memphis, TN on the "5 Most Dangerous Cities in the US" list a couple of days ago? Maybe the author of this article thinks hospital emergency rooms are "fun" (they certainly aren't affordable!).

How did this writer get a job? This is so poorly researched..Sacramento population 10,061? The areas mentioned in Hawaii aren't even cities, they are neighborhoods in Honolulu and some of the streets mentioned are not even in those neighborhoods. I have lived in both Honolulu areas mentioned..fun, definitely, and worth the price, but not affordable. I understand that an article like this is just an opinion but backing it up with imaginary data is ridiculous.

Sacramento weather sucks unless you like HOT summers and lots of rain in the winter

flat and ugly area, smoggy in the summer

This article is a bodged mess of inaccuracies. Title and content are mostly inaccurate as you cannot rate affordability based upon numbers of bars or enterntainment. If that was the case then Las Vegas, and Hollywood would be number one.  Get a new writer with some common sense, or relabel the article please. This happens to MSN publishing more often than not.  Sorry to say and lesson learned from many times past.

I agree that this article is not well researched. I don't understand Anchorage as a top fun city. I think winter would be brutal, and for example in January there is 3 hours of sunshine a day. Also I have my doubts about towns in Hawaii being among the most affordable because so many items would have to be shipped or flown in. I doubt Scottsdale is affordable either. Fun, yes, but it is one of the most expensive cities in AZ.

AZ is the best. Liz130 doesn't know what she's talking about.  We have the best weather, best govenor, best sheriff's, best housing prices, best property taxes, best roads and best people.

We don't take the abuse from illegal aliens either, thrown them out of our country until they come in legally.  What would happen to the U.S. if boat loads of europeans started coming here and just docked anywhere and jumped onto our shores?  Think about it.

Greenville, SC...Correction.....Bloomberg, you gooned it!!    Quoted as 36,389 population???  Try 360,000 urban population.......Wikipedia: "Greenville is the sixth largest city in the state of South Carolina. ... Area (MSA), it had a municipal population of 58409 and an urban population of 302,194 as of ..."

I am not sure how the author came up with the places as most affordable.  In my opinion, the writer picked a few cities that he/she has heard things about. Honolulu is not very affordable in terms of housing and day to day living expenses as food. Scottsdale, AZ is an upscale places, and even with the housing bust, it is still not  a place for many people. This article was not researched. I would love to see the references used for this article.

I don't see THE VILLAGES in Florida. The population is moving to over 100,000. It is a retirement community but also has oppurtunities for all ages. Check it out  .

I am overwhelmed at some of these opinions I have read.  I read a lot of immature statements.  When a person is looking to live comfortably, secure and happy.  As far as fun goes I think we create our own fun.  To depend on a community and the business' there to give me fun, makes no sense to me.  I love the small towns along the coast, any coast.  It is beautiful and remember you get what you pay for.

Always look around you and see!  My life long home was on a chain of 12 Lakes in Northern Illinois. It was the best!  Small towns about 5 to 10 mi. apart.  Most sat adjacent to a lake and we had Wisconsin right next door.  With all the same.We had all the summer sports, all the winter sports and fall and spring was exciting, either waiting for the change to be able to dive in the water or to see the first snow.  Living was pretty darned comfortable..  Most always had the fires burning in the fireplaces or out of doors pits.  And most small bars had the same with all the excitement of football-baseball,golf and all the sports on their tv's.  Dinner houses were mostly independent with quality and great foods of every type and great atmosphere. We may have had to drive a few miles to get to the ski areas,  Yet the fun was the chalange of getting to your destination.  Which is anywhere you choose to live.  In Phoenix you must drive 129 mi. to get to the slopes.  I find people in general are clouded by the recession and frustrated and don't have the time nor money to look around and fined their essential needs.  In order, that is the secret getting things in order.  We all live in beautiful territory in Arizona with any and everything available to us.  I travel a lot and find that Arizona is no different then anywhere else.  Number one a person should not live in a area they can't afford.  And there are many a territory in Arizona I find reasonable in comparison to anywhere else.  We all live way above our means,  And a lot of people don't have any means.  So you do what you got to do.  I read a lot of frustration in these opinions.  Slow down your thinking and do some analising and planning. We have dreams and we want to fullfil those dreams, Yet if there are no jobs and you have no means you need to expand your veiws and trouble shoot. And don't fear to move to smaller territories if there is jobs and it is affordable and you can balance your families lives. Or even just your own life. Life is fun and exciting no matter where you live in these here United States.

who the hell has money to go on vacation, every penny we have pays the bills and there is NO extra.   does anyone know what the cost of living is in Birmingham?

I would like a readers opinion, not some stupid statistic  cause they obviously don't know a thing.

I lived in Anchorage for 18 years and it's loads of fun but not even close to affordable. Nearly all goods require a boat or plane ride... And population of 14,000?? Way off. The author of this article should do some homework instead printing what some Visitors magazine says as fact. Not impressed.

Who creates these lists of cities that are fun and should be visited and are affordable?  Her idea of affordable is off the charts, most of these cities offer not much in the way of value or affordable hotels, etc.  As for fun, maybe 2 or 3 on the list unless you consider walking down mainstreet and shopping fun and exciting.  There are a hundred cities in the US that top any on this list that offer more affordability, more attractions and outdoor activities, and in which you can find a reasonably priced hotel that is not a flea bag and near many other attractions in the local area.  I guess one must understand that these opinions on the list are from other than the working stiffs of the world and quite possibly be influenced by the travel industry.

Live in Wilmington.  Interesting cities listed. I love how these brilliant writers & editors say "This part of Wilmington is home to the University of North Carolina @ Wilmington". Where the hell else would UNC Wilmington be. As a joke we say, I -40 west use it, cuz we don't want you here.Island with a palm treeIsland with a palm treeHotIsland with a palm treeIsland with a palm tree
