I live in Homestead a suburb of Miami and because of  the crashing housing market, I am finally a homeowner. I think that the housing market is better but there is no way that we should be on the list we have the best weather in the world and the job market has gotten so much better. Where is West Virginia, Kentuky, Mississippi, and Alabama? I tink that someone needs to do a little bit more research because it seems that the researcher only studied 3 states.

We (L.A.) are the 2nd biggest city in the country and we don't get an honorable mention in either category?!

We have more Mexicans than Mexico!! That alone should put us on the "Worst" list.

And we're the entertainment capital of the world. That should put us on the "Best" list.

You people are in denial...

The worst town in America that I have seen in the last 5 years is Tucson, Az.  The housing market is a disaster, unemployment very high, beggers and homeless on every street corner and convenience store, and ever since Katrina there has been a heavy influx of minorities that has caused the crime rates and murders to skyrocket. Nearly every part of the city itself is overun with lowlifes, you have to live in the foothills to even try to get away from it now. Not to mention for a population that is similar to Seattle, Kansas City, and Denver there is nothing to do there, not even a professional team from any sport!

I live in South Florida and don't see the either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale as you point out
in your report, actually, the real state market has improved very much the last few months,
and the local economy sims to be back on their feet.
I dare you to buy a foreclosure in a decent area........... It's almost imposible !!!!

Since the Detroit riot in 1967 the race lines were established.  Blacks had Detroit and Whites had the suburbs.  For over 30 years Detroit has been in steady decline as the suburbs prospered.  Kwame Kilpatrick accelerated that steady decline and then the economy took a nose dive in 2008.  Plenty of of empty houses in the burbs at rock bottom short sale prices so that is where Detroit residents went.

My vote for miserable would be Portland Oregon. It's like lipstick on a pig. While the largest neighborhood consisting of the highest number of minorities, senior citizens and the disabled on the far end of the East side of town, some 30,000 plus, are stuffed in substandard housing with no sidewalks in the area, along dangerous busy streets with little shopping, the media portrays the few areas of yuppies and hipsters closer to downtown in the more conveneint neighborhoods as Portland they call "Portlandia." These are the neighborhoods with the best public transportation, shopping and housing. Not to mention streets, parks and schools. And of course the most expensive.

Ironically, these 30,000 were pushed out of their lower middle class Yuppified neighborhoods so thef fictious Portlandis could exist. Their neighborhoods were before modest but liveable. Then they became gentrified or as I mentioned Yuppified. The former inhabitants could no longer afford their rentals and  were corraled in one area where concrete ugly housing was built for them in the form of ugly apartment complexes far from the elite. Then they were forgotten while Portland patted itself on the pat on how cool it had become.

Liberal? Cool? Green? Maybe. But also heartless, cold and mean. And for many people, miserable. But you won't see that on "Portlandia." Because that won't make the producers money.

It's time to start using the old laws on the books instead of thinking about new ones. All states to immediately  start using the death penalty again. It's costing the states way to much money to care for these criminals. Also when we start killing these people on death row it should be televised so the public can watch their tax dollars at work if they choose. I personally would like to see public hangings and why not a firing squad for these scum bags. Start showing the criminal minds they won't live in luxury in prison for life. This will stop a lot a crime but not all but I sure the hell would think twice about committing a violent crime.Lets start emptying the jail cells and start closing some of these prisons down.

I think Detroit should be number one they included to suburbs with the Detroit average house price their are plenty of homes for one dollar you really do not need a television just look out the window and it's all the police shows rolled into one 65% of all the streetlights are shot out. They built a river walk on the riverfront I thought it was so nice that they included shelters a long the way for the muggers to get out of the rain. If you have an automobile accident in the city it might take six months to get a accident report for your insurance company I hear it's getting worse now you might have to bribe the clerk to fill it out. A couple years ago the friend of the court for child support was stealing the funds meant for the children and all of this is because of scum politicians can you say revolution starting with Coleman young
