Democraps will not understant this------------------

COSTELLO:  I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.
ABBOTT:  Good Subject.  Terrible Times.  It's 7.8%.
COSTELLO:  That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT:  No, that's 14.7%
COSTELLO:  You just said 7.8%.
ABBOTT:  7.8% Unemployed.
COSTELLO:  Right 7.8% out of work.
ABBOTT:  No, that's 14.7%.
COSTELLO:  Okay, so it's 14.7% unemployed.
ABBOTT:  No, that's 7.8%.
COSTELLO:  WAIT A MINUTE.  Is it 7.8% or 14.7%?
ABBOTT:  7.8% are unemployed.  14.7% are out of work.
COSTELLO:  If you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT:  No, Congress said you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed.  You have to look for work to be unemployed.
COSTELLO:  BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!!!
ABBOTT:  No, you miss his point.
COSTELLO:  What point?
ABBOTT:  Someone who doesn't look for work can't be counted with those who look for work.  It wouldn't be fair.
COSTELLO:  To whom?
ABBOTT:  The unemployed.
COSTELLO:  But ALL of them are out of work.
ABBOTT:  No, the unemployed are actively looking for work.  Those who are out of work gave up looking and if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.
COSTELLO:  So if you're off the unemployment rolls that would count as less unemployment?
ABBOTT:  Unemployment would go down.  Absolutely!
COSTELLO:  The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for work?
ABBOTT:  Absolutely it goes down.  That's how they get it to 7.8%.  Otherwise it would be 14.7%.  Our govt. doesn't want you to read about 14.7% unemployment.
COSTELLO:  That would be tough on those running for reelection.
ABBOTT:  Absolutely!
COSTELLO:  Wait, I got a question for you.  That means there are two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT:  Two ways is correct.
COSTELLO:  Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT:  Correct.
COSTELLO:  And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
ABBOTT:  Bingo.
COSTELLO:  So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to have people stop looking for work.
ABBOTT:  Now you're thinking like an Economist.
COSTELLO:  I don't even know what the hell I just said!
ABBOTT:  Now you're thinking like Congress.

Blame Bill Clinton who wanted a home for every family. Made the lenders lower their guide lines on borrowers and pushed for more mortgage loans. And gave lenders and brokers free reign on stipps and income that were false and lied about. Give broker or lender a free run at getting someone in a mortgage that they can't afford so they can make commission on the deal, I'm gonna do it too. They all did it. False income, false appraisal, closings by sleazy title companies all lead by the realtor .A  $20 an hour worker can't afford a $450,000 house.  Saw it all in Gilbert ,Az.

You always blame the Mortgage people.  The borrowers knew what they were doing, they understood the loan they were getting into.   Yet they went ahead and closed on the loan.  Stop blaming the lenders for everything.  Yes I agree they should have helped with the modifications better totally.  But you know what there were people who just walked away from their houses who could afford their payments but saw an oppurtunity to just leave and they did.  I am so sick of borrowers not taking any responsiblilty for what happened.  It's the governments fault, it's the lenders fault.  It is your own fault too.  Stand up and stop blaming everyone else.

You people who are quick to blame the democratic party or any part of the government need to get
your facts in order.  The mortgage industry created this debacle due to the greed, dishonesty, and
deception that they chose to feed the average laymen. A dishonest licensed mortgage broker should have had their licenses taken away and they should have been treated like another Bernie Madoff.  Not all mortgage brokers are crooks, but if you want to put blame on someone then I suggest you put it where it belongs and quit blaming the wrong groups of people. Educate yourselves before you start spewing blame. The mortgage industry started this windfall 20+ years ago.

We live in WA state and we tried to get a loan modification and that ended up being a joke... We had never missed a payment, ran into a bunch of financial problems that caused us to have to down size our lives. To keep from loosing out  home of 13 years, we tried the said mod. and was denied. We now either do a quick sail, or give the house back. We are upside down in the house as the market has dropped so bad, that you would think that the bank would rather keep us in, even at a little lower payment, but it looks like they are more  interested in taking the home, putting it back up for sale and selling it for less than what we owe. It must be that new down payment money they are after from the new sale and not keeping their customer happy... I am 60 years old with MS and my future is a strange one now... we are only talking $60,000 here not a huge amount... Heck you can buy a car for that now....

A lot of the Florida foreclosures originated from second home or rental property purchases.

We should not confuse the typical working family foreclosure from the foreclosure created by

someone making an investment for profit. Florida is a special case!

People used the HELOC or the cash out from a refi on their main home to put a down payment on the Florida home. The idea was that they would rent it out to cover the mortgage until they were ready to retire. or maybe they had taken a real estate course and they were trying to build a portfolio of rental properties. Unfortunately when the rental market collapsed, they couldn't cover the mortgage because they were over leveraged.

Now besides having lost or about to lose the Florida home, they are underwater on their main home and probably got or are trying to get a mortgage modification.  Hopefully they haven't lost that home too.

They gambled their parents' version of the American Dream - Mortgage Free Home Ownership to go after their dream.

Remember those "Mortgage Burning Parties" our parents' and grandparents' generations had?

I haven't heard of any these days!  Paying off the mortgage was a source of pride for their generations, because it was their American Dream.

Nowadays if you have paid off the mortgage, you keep quiet about it!

I'm a Wisconsin resident and the foreclosure crisis is far from over in this area.  U.S. Bank is a heavy hitter here and holds a lot of mortgages in this area and they are just ignoring federal regulations (HAMP and HAFA) and raking people over the coals.  The feds and state's attorney office in Wis, really needs to crack down on U.S. Bank Home Mortgage, what they are getting away with is disgusting.

No wonder so many people are broke, they are dumb as well as unaware.  70% of all states is held by the Republican party.  GEORGE freaking Bush gave Obama shiet shake.  We were at war LONG before Obama and folks just forget it.
The Recession was DURING the BUSH era.  The freaking war, BUSH, lest we forget the truth.  Obama = not the best president however BUSH, CARTER the two worst of all time.

Carter = 18.9 interest rates gas lines, max fill up 5 dollars and waiting in line.

Bush = 5 % interest rates rang up 2 trillion in debt on the war.  250,000 troops in the middle east.  Down joins falls worst then the great depression.  Banks had to be bailed out because of no REPUBLICAN oversight BS.  4900 troupers dead.  Housing collapse...

Obama over 14,000 on the NYSE since he took office, housing collapse halted, Neveda 1 in 3 homes foreclosed on before Obama now 1 in 840 LOOK up the facts.  OBAMA may sucks like 90 % of all politicians, but it not only improved for jobs and housing and economy 18 million people who didnt have healthcare have it.  People who had 2000 a month insurance cost now have 390 like us.
He did bring home almost all troupers but he F ED it up by not leaving them in IRAQ now mass killings are going on and the full reason we stayed in Korea, and Vietnam is to STOP F-ing dictators killing people just because they get pissed on what kind of clothes they have on.

Obama may suck like all politicians, but DID he create the problem.  NO, WE DID by not putting our political system to an end.  STOPPING big business from buying the rules.

OUR forefathers gave us the right to bare arms to STOP the political process if we were not represented but we are STUPID and fail to grasp it.  Peaceful march to change our government so we can all have a better life.

GOOGLE the top 1000 wealthiest people in the U.S.  See what their combined net worth is.   Take that Trillion dollars and disperse it to roads, the people, and stop the rich from buying the LAWs.

When the wealthiest people pay 12% tax and the middle class pay 45% tax its time for a change.

If you really ever take the time to do the math ,, Tax benefits against the cost of ownership including interest and whatever else is tacked on ,,,, Its elementary ...... The American Dream of home ownership just doesn't ADD UP,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Especially in CA ..FL etc

Whatever you think you own, will eventually cost you everything.

Oh and while we are on the subject of extreme losses in your personal; portfolio, Think twice and against retirement savings programs associated with the government , including annuity's. The only people that are profiting from the investment ,are the ones not investing the money .

DO THE MATH !!  CASH IS KING..... SAVE SAVE SAVE.. it gonna rain Baby.

Banks such as Wells Fargo, Citi Bank, Bank of America, and Chase and a few other big banks created millions of subprime loans between 2004 and 2009 saturating the market with loans that they knew homeowners would not be able to pay back because of the terms of the loan. The terms were no down payments, adjustable interest rates, and loans made without checking income. Banks banked on real estate continuing to rise and made tons of two year fixed rate subprime loans where the payments ballooned after the 24th month to a level that the borrowers could not pay. These loans were packaged and bundled and sold to Freddie Mack and other investers, who have since sued banks  and settled because of all the bank fraud and misrepresentation of the value of these bundled loans. Very few home owners were to blame. They simply did not see the train coming. Banks on the other handle should carry most of the blame because they were driving the train popping wheelies from all the money they were making off of subprime loans. They have settled with investors and settled with Freddie Mack, however homeowners who lost value in their homes, and families who lost their home have not been made whole and are suing for all the fraud and misrepresentation that has deeply affected the housing market. Remember banks made subprime loans because they were very profitable. A large number of these loans defaulted because the market tightened up and people could not refinance when their  interest rates ballooned. Banks knew  this and continued making these types of risky loans until the house of cards came tumbling down. Anyone who wanted to sell their home after 2005 when they lost their job due to the recession, or anyone who needed to move out of state to take a new job were royally screwed because their home was worth anywhere from 25% to 50% less than what was owed on their property. In most cases the banks would not lower principal and they would not work with people to stay in their homes. The chose to foreclose because it meant more money for them.  For every forclosure that is within a 1 to 3 mile radius of your home, it affects the appraisal and value of your home very negatively. Some neighborhoods had multiple foreclosures on the same street, which brings down everyones property values. The new buyers pick these homes up very cheap and the price becomes the new value of all similar homes in the neighborhood. Again, banks saw this coming because they were not only driving the train but also laying the track where they thought it was most profitable. Someone needs to send the too big to fail banks a message from homeowners that we are not going to take it any more. I would give each homeowner who was affected millions in punitive damages if I thought it would send a message to banks for what they have done to the housing market. Those responsible should be in jail right next to Bernie Madoff!!!!

It's a buying opportunity: $1 for 50 cents. Keep them coming. Basic principle of a 'value' type of investment.

[BRK] is now in the real estate business.

It shows me people are buying more house then they can afford. In addition, that filing bankruptcy or not paying house payments for many months to force foreclosure is just another way to game the system.
