how is it even possible to have 2 bedrooms in a 400 sq ft house?  Most small 2 bedrooms are around twice that size. I own a 2000 sf home in central kansas we bought for under 50k. It amazes me what people are willing to pay to live in the city.  Do jobs really pay that much better there?  Just to live in that New York cracker box, the mortgage would be more than most people's income.

The sad part about Detroit is for the price of a big city studio you could buy a whole block.

Back in the day i used to sleep and keep all my stuff in 12 cubic feet. All there was room for was bare basics.

Those homes would be luxury for many, many people living in a 3rd world country.

You go to places like Paris and you'll find tiny homes that sell for high prices.  It's all location.

There are many, many houses in Philadelphia that are well under 500 square feet.  They're called trinity's.  One room per floor, normally 3 floors.  Lots of people live in them and love them because they're historic, and typically have lots of old features, like original doors from the 18/19th century, etc.  It just means living without lots of clutter.  Not good for a family, with kids, but fine if you're single.

This obsession with having massive houses with more bedrooms/space than you'll ever need and 15 bathrooms is partly responsible for jacking up house prices.  We have a 1200 square foot house (3 bedrooms, 1 bath) for 3 of us, and it is PLENTY of space.

The bars on the window in the Detroit home add that sense of security that every home owner desires.  It's great to know that Detroit is coming back.

A weekend crash pad in NYC- for $259,000!? The space is fine (think Ikea showroom), but what an insulting thing to say. Maybe there is a young (or not so young) professional without millions of dollars who would dearly love such a location FULL TIME!

The Las Vegas space is just a hotel room that you can buy.
