I would think New Jersey would be at the top of the list. I bought a sad and ugly fixer upper for $105,000 in Dec 2010. Imagine my surprise when Weichert realtors advised me that my closing costs were almost $7,000!!!!! on a $105,000 house. In order to pay that, I had to pay an additional 5,000 for the dump, making the house $110,000 instead of $105,000 to roll in some of the closing costs. It is absolutely astonishing to me that a house costing $105,000 could possibly have closing costs of almost $7,000!!!!

Down payment, mortgage insurance, home owners insurance, property taxes, and any previous outstanding debt and bills needs to be factored in and it certainly wasn't. People who believes in the article's figures are ones that will be foreclosed against several years later. If I didn't know better, i would simply blame the writer of the article to the cause of the housing market several years back.

Just look at the states here with the highest closing cost. All of these states have Republican Goverrnors. Now we know how the Republicans can corrupt our system.

I would think that my home state of California would rate as one of the highest. People are always complaining about housing prices being so high. The only people who can afford homes out here are doctors, lawyers, and movie stars like Brad Pitt. Your average worker can't afford a basic house. Even if your lucky enough to have a good paying job.

This is not accurate for Kansas our Missouri...We are selling a house in Missouri and our closing costs are right around 4,000 and we are buying a house in Kansas and the closing costs are around 4500. I would definitly take that extra 1,000 dollars on my end of the closing cost.

There should be no closing cost. The bank makes it's money in the interest of the loan and the agent should get paid by the seller. It is absolutely ridiculous to be penalized for making a purchase. Buying is good, don't punish them.
