500 sq ft is a small yard? Not in most of Philadelphia it's not. Some would kill for 100 sq ft.

On my 38 x 100' lot in Lodi, NJ 15 minutes from NYC I have created a Key West type atmosphere which includes my house and a detached 2 car cinderblock garage (now a working tropical greenhouse) 1200 gal. koi pond complete with wrought iron 8' bridge and tropical in summer from 40= pots of orchids, mango, papya, different types of citrus, exotic tropical flowers, kiwi, guava, star fruit and so many more. All looked over by a 14x12 raised deck with awning. And to much more to mention. Look for me on facebook,. Norman Bedard

Give it a week and you'll be sleeping with quite a few critters and bugs.

Is it just me or does #14 look like a well-appointed homeless encampment?

1000 sq feet...a small back yard? That's the size of my home. Of course the actual small yards were nicely done, especially those with repurposed/reused materials.

A swing in the back yard from a tree right above a cement retaining wall..... A trip to the emergency room waiting to happen!

Lots of water, grass and fire pits. Water = mosquitoes. Fire = HOT. Grass = snakes and spiders. Concrete, gravel and large potted plants is the way to go.

Grass is expensive to maintain, compared to fine Persian Carpets. Gallery is great as shows readers various alternatives to $$$ turf lawns.

Japanese gardens are also a great way to utilize and enjoy a small backyard.

Now that I'm older I'm looking to see how to develop my backyard with a water fountain/ waterfall and maybe a pond with fish to entertain myself in the afternoons when I come home from work and on the weekends. I do a great deal of entertaining with neighbors and business associates and I feel I need, a place where everyone can relax outside in the backyard.  It would be great if the area in the backyard could be used for three seasons out of the year. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

oh,oh,great  topic. i  have heard a saying  goes in China  like this "Only one himself

knows if the shoes match his feet or not “If u really love her /him ,nothing matters,
let alone the age . look at my name ~~ it is  a nice place for younger women and older
men, or older women and younger men, to interact with each other. i met my BF there ,and
he is almost 12 older than me ,but we think we did find the true love. BTW ,Ever feel
that you would best enjoy someone who is not in your age group?   If u are interested in
it, maybe  u  wanna check  it out or tell your friends

I don't like the B&W before pictures - seems like a cheap trick to make the after picture look better.

Also, puttting the camera in the same location for both the before and after pics really shows actual change.

This seems more like a diet drug ad, where they use every trick to convince you of the results. If it looks good afterwards, you should be able to see it
