Absolutely disgusting. She RUINED that house. All the stuff she had to do to it, wouldn't it have just been easier and cheaper to do a new build?  The cultural integrity of the humble adobe home was seriously compromised. If you want a home with all the bells and whistles of a Manhattan penthouse, go move to New York City, don't invade Santa Fe.

Yeah, that divorce and housing market really hurt her financially.

 

I'm guessing the high price tag was because it was in an historic neighborhood.

 

Why a single person needs 2,000 square ft. is beyond me.  I'm single and live in a condo a little under 1,000 sq. ft.

 

Wonder if she blew the whole wad or did the sensible thing and save some for retirement and higher food, energy and health care costs in store.  Wonder if she has a real job.

I live in SF and I wish I could tell from the photo where exactly this is, although I don't think it is in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the historic district.  Desirable, maybe.  Highly desirable, umm, I'm thinking not.  Her taste is definitely different.  The guy below who said it might re-sale for $120g is way off.  Even not renovated it would probably sell for at least $350 - $450g.  Could she get her investment back if she put it on the market today?  Extremely,  highly unlikely.  In fact not a fat chance in hell.  As for her 8000 sq. ft. house she was originally going to build, I'm betting it was in the subdivision referred to as The Beverly Hills of Santa Fe.  That's where the majority of Texans and Californians build and buy homes to show off their extreme excess.  It's all about appearances to them.

500 grand for that dump? and that was before restoration!!!  WOW, somebody must have seen her coming. Can not say that the end result is much better, either. She should have kept on renting.

She did her bit for the economy by giving some people employment for a couple of years.  As far as the house goes, she took what could have been a charming historic adobe and turned it into a piece of sterilized crap on the inside.  There is nothing attractive or humble about the interior of this house.  Classic example that money can't buy good taste.  That living room furniture custom made to fit?  It looks just like an Aaron's Rent to Own showroom.  If she wanted a New York loft, why not go buy a New York loft?  She clearly has the money.

those with money to burn are anything but humble and simple in what they choose as their housing situations.  this is totally gorgeous and absolutely impossible for most people.

If she spent that much on that house, she got ripped off. The house is ugly, stupid looking, ridiculous, moronic, and foolish.

$401 per square foot for an 80 yr old adobe house?  Damn, I'm in the wrong buisness!!  Then ending up with $1600/sqft??

I was a graduate student in NM back in the 70s; Santa Fe was a delightful place back then where graduate students on a teaching assistentship could have a good weekend without going bankrupt.  No more!!

Here's the funny thing... She spent 2 million dollars renovating a home she can someday sell for $120 thousand  But then, she's wealthy, one of the 1%, the same kind of people we have running our government and spending our tax dollars.  No wonder our country is in financial ruin!  We'd be better off with a single mother of six who has to balance a budget of $20,000 a year in charge of our tax dollars!

"Humbleness and bling"? Excuse me, but I see no humbleness in spending 2 MILLION dollars renovating any house.. When you have, even in small Santa Fe, thousands of people out of work and kids going hungry everyday, I can't help but think SOME of that money could have been put to better use then buying 40k worth of furniture, etc.. Perhaps United Way or Salvation Army could have used some of that money to feed and cloth people that have nothing, through no fault of their own..
It really doesn't say much about the filthy rich when they flaunt their wealth in this day and age but, personally, I'm a bit sick of it.. I guess that's why they are called 'filthy'!

Total crap. Dont buy an old Adobe just to tear out all its elements and turn it into some plain piece of garbage. Leave old houses alone already!!! You want new, BUY NEW!!!!!
