Tiger Woods' ex-wife levels Palm Beach mansion
Elin Nordegren plans to build a new home on the Florida oceanfront site. Meanwhile, demolition plans in Malibu have drawn opposition from celebrity neighbors.

What looks like a mansion to us is just too, too small, and rather than add a new wing, they often just tear down the whole thing and start over.
The latest celebrity to knock down a house is Elin Nordegren, the ex-wife of golfer Tiger Woods, who recently demolished her 17,000-square-foot oceanfront mansion near Palm Beach, Fla., so she can build a new home on the site. She paid $12.2 million for the eight-bedroom home in a gated community in February.

Citing county records, Jose Lambiet's GossipExtra reports that the new home will be built by Onshore Construction and Development, which also built homes in Palm Beach County for Woods, his mother and singer Celine Dion. According to Lambiet, the workers were all required to sign confidentiality agreements.
While construction is under way, Nordegren is living in a $1.1 million condo she bought this summer. At the time, she reportedly was planning to live in the 1,800-square-foot unit while renovating the mansion.
Property records say that the home Nordegren demolished was built in 1932 and that it had a 4,700-square-foot basement, which is highly unusual in South Florida. While the county property records say the home was 17,000 square feet, other records list it at about 9,000 square feet.
She should be glad she doesn't live in Malibu, Calif.
A New York hedge-fund manager in 2009 bought an unusual home, made up of six diamond-shaped segments, designed by architect Bart Prince and built in 2005. Now the owner wants to tear it down and build a conventional 5,710-square-foot Mediterranean mansion, Curbed reports.
The plan has run into strong opposition from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, band mates Anthony Kiedis and Flea, actor Sean Penn and comedian Don Rickles. It's not because they are architectural preservationists but because the new mansion would block their ocean view.

Good for you Elin....you do whatever you want ...that prime property it's past time for a bulldozer...the land and the view is what she was really paying for ...get a new fresh updated, cost efficient home...you deserve it sweetie...don't let anyone make you feel bad about your decision...most are just jealous.
As far as spending money...she is a very big supporter of many issues close to her heart...she just doesn't tell everyone ...and why should she? Many *Stars* donate and do not want the public to know...unless they are looking for some PR...Elin doesn't need PR. Let her be.
Tear down and rebuilds are very common these days and can be very cost efficient. Old structures like the one Erin bought usually have sat on the market for years because they are in very bad condition both aesthetic and structural or had the copper pipes and wiring ripped out of them. It is also a good time to buy it as the current market is so depressed and depressing. She is investing in a to be built home to live there while she is going to school to study psychology and then sell the home off when she's done most likely, making this a great investment to get a return on her $12,000,000. Ever hear it takes money to make money, that's why the rich can get richer.
After reading all the posts on this story I've found that the 10 percent who claim to be the 99 percent do not stick to the story, provide ad hominem, straw man, and/or hypocritical attacks as well as Elton John is on a piano, not to mention mean spirited and vindictive. Please refrain from religious comments until you've gone to church yourself for a change and get some hope and love in your attitude. Please stick with the story instead of going emotional or communistic with little regard for the facts. I guess it makes you feel good to be a tool of the MSM and politicians. Fully 50 percent of the posts written from both points of view look like they never looked at or read the story, learn to read an article properly before commenting please. There must have been 30 or so comments that were repeatedly posted 2-7 times apiece. Once is more than enough. For those you who think she should save the world by giving all her money (not Tiger's as she had 2 children she's left with and not just sex) to charity should either give more to charity themselves or if they can't afford money to give, go join the peace corps and see what the real poor around the world deal with. Believe it or not , rich people have rights also, although after reading this thread I think half of you think your rights exceeds another person's right. Get a life of your own. please.
How do we know that Elin has not donated money to any charities. A lot of people likes to keep their lives private. She met her boyfriend at a charity event. See this is what is wrong with society these days, people got to know what others are doing and when they can't find anything on them. They want to talk bad about them. But no one doesn't understand is that we control our destiny, we make our lives what it is. Always looking to point a finger at everyone else instead taking responsiblity for their own actions blaming the government for stuff that we had control over. When you vote you have control over what happens to your future. So therefore stop worring about others. Yes Elin is very pretty but her looks had nothing to do with anything.What makes her pretty is her money. If society did not moralize the size 2 and plaster pretty woman all over everything she then would be a ordinary person and this conversation would not be taking place right now.
Some people just don't get it. Who do you think will build the new house? In case you can't figure it out, I'll tell you...ordinary working people .... carpenters, electricians, plumbers, interior designers, etc, etc.
Some of you say she's a 1%er who should pay more taxes. Would you prefer that the money that will be going directly from her to the working class instead be paid in taxes, so that the government can take their cut to support the bloated bureaucracy, and then give the rest to people who choose not to work..or give the rest to the same carpenters, etc. in the form a of a stimulus???
This is trickle down economics in its purest form. Oh, and by the way, I'm sure she WILL be paying more taxes, in the form of increased property taxes, when the new house is built.
And for those who say she should donate the money, who says she doesn't donate millions already? And.. donations don't put people to work.
