Listing of the week: Marco Rubio's Miami home

The home, listed for $675,000, is considerably larger than others in the 'working-class' neighborhood. The asking price is more than Rubio paid at the height of the boom.

Courtesy of Realtor.comIf you want to follow in the footsteps of Sen. Marco Rubio, who gave the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union message this week, perhaps you’d like to own his home.

The Miami Republican is selling the two-story home he bought new in 2005. Asking price is $675,000.

Because prices in Miami have fallen about 50% since 2005, we’re not sure why Rubio thinks his home is worth so much more than the $550,000 he paid near the height of the market. Perhaps he is trying to cover his mortgages. The home has been for sale since November.

Post continues below

Rubio’s home became news -- though not quite as famous as his water bottle -- after he mentioned it during his speech:

Mr. President, I still live in the same working-class neighborhood I grew up in. My neighbors aren’t millionaires. They’re retirees who depend on Social Security and Medicare. They’re workers who have to get up early tomorrow morning and go to work to pay the bills. They’re immigrants, who came here because they were stuck in poverty in countries where the government dominated the economy.

The house is a typical two-bedroom new Florida suburban tract house: two-story living room, two-car garage, marble tile floors. The 2,649-square-foot home is not typical of the neighborhood, being both larger and newer. Only two of the 35 single-family listings for sale in the 33144 ZIP code are more expensive, and they are significantly larger, more than 4,800 square feet.

The neighborhood, west of Miami proper but much closer to downtown than many of the city’s suburbs, is mostly well-kept older concrete-block and stucco homes, most less than 2,000 square feet.

Rubio’s home has four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, plus a pool with a nice patio area, on a 7,351-square-foot lot at the end of a cul-de-sac.

According to The Daily Caller, Rubio wants to move his wife and four children to Washington, D.C.

Come On Man,  Macro Rubio is as Cuban as Al Pacino.!

Latino Americans arent falling for this fake Republican stunt to try and garner latino votes. And after decades of Republican pressure to 'build a Big Wall with barbed wire' to keep out the illegals, all of a sudden... Republicants are pro immigration??...

Nice try white guys!

The man lies!! He lied about his parent, he lied on the rebuttal to the President's SOTU. He is a Tea Party turd. Just by being Cuban does not guarantee the latino vote. Most Hispanics (Legal or Illegal) had to work to get what ever they have. Most likely his parents had to work for it because they were not refugees and did not get the freebies all other Refugee Cuban automatically receive the moment they set foot on the US. So don't bet on the latino vote just because and if he does not change some of his rhetoric, he is toast, Just where the GOP is heading. Keep it up, your STUPID ideas better for the Dems.

If this man thinks he can B.S. the nation, he is in for a rude awakening! He speaks with a fork tongue, Lied about his parents immigration situation to better his political agenda, just wait until he really gets a very good look at in future elections. Just being hispanic (Cuban) does not open the doors to hispanics that really suffer in this country, just like his parents. His parents were not considered refugees when they came to this country, so they did not get the freebies the rest of the Cuban people get the moment they set foot in this country. Anyway you look at it , Rubio has a credibility problem with mainstream latinos, particularly if he continues to abide by the Tea Party Crap!

Yeah well lets ask Obama just how much he has stashed in the last four and a half years. Marco Rubio has a right to live in whatever he can afford to. At least he earned his money and paid for his home. Obama thinks  the whole world owes him because of his smile and award winning charm. But it just makes me want to throw up.

So, what is your point?  That a successful legislator should live in the getto in order to be considered 'legitimate'?  Put him up against any other legislator in Washington who lives in elaborate housing, etc. and consider the housing market in areas where he lives - sour grapes if you ask me!

Is MSN even real, or is this now just a SNL skit?  I'm seriously asking this.

Oooooohhhh!!   I saw Marco Rubio take that swig of water again.  I'm not sure I trust him now, and the fact he is selling his home is even more reason to reject him out of hand.  I would much rather give my hard earned money to illegal aliens than support a guy who sells his house and drinks water swigs on tv.  Good story MSNBC, and keep up the good reporting.

So let's get this right.  Rubio was lauding his home and his neighborhood, yet his home has been for sale since last November.  By the way the television pundits did the math on his $100,000 worth of student loans that he just paid off.  He would have had to have paid $700 a month to do it.  And buy this expensive house, and afford a swimming pool and wife and kids.  He's not who he sold himself as being, much like most republicans who keep on expousing oil and coal and propping up big business.  Too big to fail big business.  You guys made that term, didn't you?  And his stance on immigration in excepting the richest and the brightest would have certaily excluded his mother and father or left them living in the state of ambuigity that most if not all illegals live in this country.  Should I continue?

That part of Miami is a hell hole. Airplanes zooming overhead, constant traffic - the worst you can imagine, noisy, strip malls, predictable crap. The worst pollution and devoid of character. I have news for Mr. Rubio...He's going to have to handle much more than stage lighting and one camera if he has higher political aspirations.

Let's see. The man is standing in front of studio lighting that produce hundreds of degrees of temperature. it was easily one hundred degrees where he stood and you have morons ragging him because he took a drink of water. I would like to see that worthless scumbag Obama try to accomplish the same feat. Ig tired of seeing all the fly's buzzing around his head. Just proves this guy stinks. God liberals act as if stupidity is a virtue.
