ZillowAnd the winners in California are: Mitt and Ann Romney.

The California Coastal Commission ruled Oct. 11 that the former Republican presidential candidate and his wife are free to build their dream house on the beach in La Jolla, CA. The commission rejected an appeal by a former neighbor who tried to block the couple’s plan to tear down the home they bought for $12 million in 2008 and build an 11,000-square-foot spread in its place.

The CCC voted 7-4 that the Romneys can proceed with their plans and, more importantly, that they do indeed own a portion of the beach. The size of the lot had been at issue in an appeal filed by Tony Ciani.

In its findings, the panel concluded that “the vast majority of the square footage will be contained in the basement and first floor” and that “the home will not have adverse impacts on public views to and along the beach, as the existing ocean views are down the street and not over the subject property.”

Romney has said that he wanted to own a home where he could hear the ocean, so the couple picked up the property in 2008 and devised plans for a new home that could accommodate their five married sons and 23 grandchildren.

Post continues below.

In the meantime, the Romneys can celebrate in their other new home. Last week it was reported that they had purchased an 8,700-square-foot “Utah rustic” mansion in Park City. The ski resort-area home had been featured in architectural magazines and is constructed from native Utah logs around a great room and huge central fireplace.

In all, the Romneys appear to have themselves covered from coast to coast with some well-placed and family-friendly properties. Their summer home is a compound on Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro, NH.

While the Romneys wait for construction to start on the La Jolla project, Ann is keeping busy promoting her new cookbook, “The Romney Family Table.”

I wish as much scrutiny was paid to Obama that is lavished on Romney ... people might just see what a narcissistic, far left toe tag liberal Barry really is. But no, they just lap up the pablum the media and his administration feed them, and zealously beg for more, without doing any real thinking of their own. Welcome to America 2.0 ... land of the proudly uninformed!

And they say that money don't buy you happiness!!
.... Money will buy you a mansion overlooking the Pacific, (only to tear it down and build an even bigger mansion), portion of the beach, the California  Coastal Commission and the stupid gop cerebral voids that still lick his **** and dispose of his droppings.

Now that's happiness!

Yes, and Mitt can pay for this with all of the money he received from Bain Capital and other

companies,  a $20,000 personal bonus for each American job with all of the pension benefits that he eliminated from American companies and sent to China and other countries that pay less than minimum wage.  Good for the American worker who lost their jobs?

Of course Mit didn't just buy the house to tear it down.  He has owned it since 2008.  He didn't want to do that before the election as it would look bad.  He did put in elevators for his car collection as I think he said he drives an old pickup and a mustang (he probably rented for the photo op).  Of course he has multiple Cadillacs and high end cars his wife drives......

I'm sure it will only be a "pittance" out of one of his offshore accounts!

But what can you expect from a man who's god is money!

Now he can rule over his "empire" made up of his kids, and grandkids, inside, what will probably be a 20ft electrified fence, with gun turrets;  and have classes, every day on how to rip off the 47%, and not bat an eye, as well as applied, offshore, economics, and how to shut down a business, and put people out of jobs in one day!!!  What a fing jerk!

And no, I am not jealous of him or his money; he has, way more problems than this "white nig", no offense meant!  Just stating a fact!!!

You anti-Republican LIBTARD Obama drinking crap drinkers are the stupidest lot of people. If you had ANY sense at all, you would quickly figure out how things REALLY are in this country.  If we don't get rid of you voting idiots we are doomed.  QUIT listening to the LYING media.  Don't you have enough sense anywhere in your little brains to maybe want to question the pile of garbage you are sold every day on MSN and everywhere else.  You cannot possibly believe the lies you are constantly told. The Romneys are a class act and would have been far better than.... that Czar we have now!

Romney does have the right to buy a 12 million dollar house and tear it down to make a bigger more opulent one.  He can block the view of his neighbors as their mere 10 million dollar houses will pale by comparison.  I don't fault rich people for spending their money.  It only makes me mad when they steal it from good hard working Americans in the first place. Look at Bain Capitol and their record of buying good cash rich companies raiding them saddling them with debt and bankrupting them.  Then the employees and their pensions are gone.... so they can send the jobs overseas!!

Don't hate on this man because he has the financial fortitude to realize his dream. It matters not to me if he worked 100 years to assume his fortune or 1 day! This is America... he has rights and so long as his rights don't impede on the rights of others I see no problem here... To many grown up's still sucking on binkies here in this country.. grow up and grow some!

The whole house... Or just 47% ???
Oct 17, 2013 11:54AM
5 married sons!!  Wasn't one of his smartazz comments when Obamacare extended coverage to 25 year offspring something to the effect that he would expect his kids at that age to support themselves and pay for their own health insurance?!?  Maybe they will be the paid grounds keepers and house cleaners!

Everything that the man does reinforces my joy that this despicable piece of slime didn't get to the Presidency. By now, the White House would have  been torn down to make way for a mansion of suitable size to accommodate his family and his ego. The Mormon cult is bizarre in SO many ways, not least their fetish for procreation.

Wow buy a house and tear it down.. must be a million dollar view plus ...this guy has way too much money and Obama should take it away from him and give it to the poor....right now! No negotiating....

i am in real estate business, people tear down and rebuild homes day in day out.  none of those people i know got to the news especially with msn.  what a news!
Oct 17, 2013 11:44AM
They want to "accommodate their 5 married children and grandchildren?"  So they're all going to live there together?

A little sick but I guess if you need to keep tabs on the boys ....
Oct 17, 2013 11:44AM

Really? Is this news?  Mr. Romney is an intelligent man who was smart enough to make a lot of money.  He is principled, has a great family and has his priorities are in the right place.  An All American.  Did you all forget what that was?

Anyway, is it really important news that he's tearing down his house and re-building to accommodate his family comfortably around him?

I'd sure like to see you all use your eagle eyes to see what the democrats do with their lives.  Or perhaps you turn a blind eye?

Oct 17, 2013 11:42AM
Well, how can you blame him?  Who would be caught dead in a $12 Million house?  C'mon, the 1% has certain standards to maintain.  The rest of us need to shoulder our tiny little loads (like staying alive when we get cancer without insurance) and applaud the self-reliance responsible for great Americans like Mitt Romney earning more money than a thousand of we, the undeserving, and support his effort to eliminate the blight of $12 million dollar beach houses on his otherwise sterling reputation.
Oct 17, 2013 11:40AM
BUT BUT Mitt and Annie...what about your 100k IRA...Doesn't that amount go a tad bit over the limit of what can be contributed to this so called 'middle class' perk?

What a jerk, he can even buy off the IRS..hide offshore accounts, outsource jobs, dodge the draft, cover up a fatality when he was in France, evade taxes and the gop schmucks still dont get it..

they deserve him,,we dont.

They own it, they can do what they want with it.

Interesting discussion. Romney lost because the evangelicals did not turn out
in the numbers they needed to. There are 30 million evangelicals. Romney lost by
3 million votes. The traditional christian church insinuates or flat out states, that
Mormonism is a cult and not the real deal with regard to the deity of Christ.

I know. I have heard it myself in my church attending years.

Shocking news. How dare they even think about turning this rich **** down. I can't believe they made him ask. Shame on them.
