Homes of 1990s stars
By Colleen Kane of CNBC
Hey, remember the 1990s? It was a time of many requests to "not go there," and entreaties to "talk to the hand," or simply a time to mindlessly chant "JER-RY! JER-RY!" over and over.
The '90s don't seem so long ago, but it was long enough ago for fortunes and careers to change: Vanilla Ice became a house flipper, while MC Hammer lost his house, shirt and Hammer pants when he went broke.
Some '90s stars of pop culture were able to parlay their fame into continuing success, and so we see their mansions, estates, penthouses and compounds pop up regularly on the market. Rommy Revson, the inventor of that definitive '90s hair accessory the Scrunchie, seems to have done rather well for herself, considering that she put her Palm Beach, Fla., estate on the market for almost $4.4 million.
Of the following homes of '90s stars, most are in California, but there are a few outliers in Idaho and Colorado.

Homes of 1990s stars
Pamela Anderson
- Location: Malibu, Calif.
- Price: $75,000 a month
- Bedrooms: 3
- Bathrooms: 2.5
- Square footage: Not available
Pamela Anderson is beloved for her red-swimsuited signature role on "Baywatch" and is friend to both animals and rock stars. She was in the news late last year for offering to lease her home in the celebrity-studded Malibu Colony —where neighbors include actor Tom Hanks — for $75,000 a month, or $20,000 a week.
Anderson posted this introduction on rental site VRBO.com: "I'm traveling so much these days and am enjoying a lot more time in my native Canada with my family … I'm finally willing to share my masterpiece — what I've co-created with a handful of green architects and designers/inspired by my favorite architect Lautner — this is my humble stab at perfection … it's a magical spot." The rental has access to Surfrider Beach and a saltwater pool with swim-up wet bar, and all of the home's technology is controlled via iPads.
Homes of 1990s stars
Bruce Willis
- Location: Hailey, Idaho
- Price: $15 million
- Bedrooms: 6
- Bathrooms: 7
- Square footage: 8,403
In the '90s, Bruce Willis still had Demi Moore on his arm, he had a hand in launching the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain and his biceps made frequent appearances in action films such as the "Die Hard" franchise.
Old Bruno recently decided to put one of his Idaho estates on the market. He bought this home in 2003 and remodeled it, overhauled the landscaping and added a detached guest house and gym. The home sits on 20 acres overlooking Flying Heart Lake, and the property includes man-made ponds and streams. The home features a gas fireplace in the master suite and heated decks outside.

Homes of 1990s stars
Courteney Cox
- Location: Los Angeles
- Price: $2.05 million
- Bedrooms: 2
- Bathrooms: Not available
- Square footage: Not available
You can't talk '90s without conjuring those attractive folks from "Friends," the ubiquitous sitcom of the decade. Courteney Cox starred for 10 years as Monica Geller in "Friends," and in 1996 began her role in the "Scream" film franchise.
Cox recently rented a two-bedroom apartment on the 25th floor of Sierra Towers, which has been home to many celebrities over the years, including Cox's former "Friends" co-star Matthew Perry. As noted on Realtor.com, this property is so appealing to celebrities because it's a full-service building, with a 24-hour front desk, security and valet.

Homes of 1990s stars
Matthew Perry
- Location: Malibu, Calif.
- Price: $13.5 million
- Bedrooms: 4
- Bathrooms: 6
- Square footage: 5,500
Speaking of Matthew Perry, here is just one of the many properties in the portfolio of the "Friends" star, who also played the lead in the 1997 romantic comedy "Fools Rush In."
The modern house sits on 2.32 acres, with unobstructed ocean views from many rooms through floor-to-ceiling windows. The house features not just the expected home theater, but an additional video-gaming "man cave." It has plenty of terrace space, equipped with a sound system and a couch around a fire pit.

Homes of 1990s stars
Jerry Seinfeld
- Location: Telluride, Colo.
- Price: $18.3 million
- Bedrooms: 11
- Bathrooms: 12.5
- Square footage: 14,200
The other ubiquitous show of the '90s, of course, was "Seinfeld," which chronicled the high jinks of a group of self-absorbed New Yorkers and starred comic Jerry Seinfeld in the title role.
In 2011, Seinfeld put his fully furnished Telluride mansion on nearly 27 acres on the market. The renovated 1991 mansion has a wet bar, lofts and a guest house. As for those beautiful natural surroundings, outdoor features include a 5,500-square-foot deck, bigger than many people's homes. ("What is the deal with that?") The property also includes hiking trails and a creek, and views of Sunshine and Wilson peaks.
Homes of 1990s stars
Jason Priestley
- Location: Toluca Lake, Calif.
- Price: $2.1 million
- Bedrooms: 3
- Bathrooms: 4
- Square footage: 3,266
The 1990s had its "Friends" and its "Seinfeld," but for a certain demographic of the viewing audience, there was only one TV show: "Beverly Hills, 90210." The role of sideburned upstanding citizen Brandon Walsh was played by teen dreamboat Jason Priestley.
In late summer, Priestly put his valley villa, which was built in 1990 and remodeled in 2005, on the market. The house didn't sell and is now off the market. No word on whether the home's failure to sell has anything to do with Priestley's unusual art collection featured prominently on the walls in the listing photos, including a large painting of French bulldog smoking a cigar and a reproduction of the Grant Wood painting "American Gothic," with the woman smoking a cigar.

Homes of 1990s stars
Seth Green
- Location: Studio City, Calif.
- Price: $1.436 million
- Bedrooms: 4
- Bathrooms: 3
- Square footage: 2,582
Before he had his own TV show, "Robot Chicken," Seth Green was known in the 1990s for his role as Scott Evil in the "Austin Powers" series of comedy films, not to mention his stint on the hit TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
This diminutive actor recently purchased a mini compound with a ranch house built in 1951. Each of the bedrooms opens to the outdoors, and the compound also has a guest house, consisting of an additional bedroom and bath, and a stream-fed swimming pool.

Homes of 1990s stars
A.J. McLean
- Location: Los Angeles
- Price: $1.919 million
- Bedrooms: 3
- Bathrooms: 4
- Square footage: 3,244
No discussion of '90s pop culture is complete without bringing up boy bands, and no talk of boy bands can occur without including the Backstreet Boys. As Realtor.com noted, the grown-up boy-band members are no strangers to the real-estate market.
Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean listed his Los Feliz Oaks Mediterranean home in 2011, asking quite a bit more than the $430,000 that he bought it for in 2001. (It's no longer on the market.) The 1958 house has been updated with the requisite gourmet kitchen and an outdoor fireplace, and in case any next-generation boy-band members happen to move in, a large lower bedroom was used as a studio.

Homes of 1990s stars
David Schwimmer
- Location: Los Angeles
- Price: $10.7 million
- Bedrooms: 9
- Bathrooms: 6 full, 1 partial
- Square footage: 11,000
This Mediterranean-style mansion belongs to actor David Schwimmer, best known for his portrayal of the lovable sad-sack Ross on "Friends." In the show, his character paired with Jennifer Aniston's character, Rachel, and Aniston has lately been shopping around for a new place herself. (The takeaway from this slide show: The "Friends" cast likes to buy and sell real estate.)
Schwimmer's mansion was built in 1926 by the same architects who designed the Beverly Hills City Hall, and it has been restored and updated to suit modern tastes. The house features a wood-paneled library and a den finished with stone. The gated property includes a tennis court and a detached loft-style guest house, with a living room, kitchen and bath.
