I live in Maine, where five bedroom, three bathroom houses with 2,000 square feet and 5 acres of land cost $150,000.  This is ridiculous.

Who would want to live in that small of a space for $200K!?

The person who can only afford that much.  And they'd be lucky to get it.

These comments are ridiculous.  It is the same as if a person from El Salvador were to post that you are a moron to pay more than 10K for your house, and why on earth would you do that?

Because this is how much property where you live costs, you would say.  I doubt your first response would be "you are right, I should move to El Salvador".

Well, space in NYC is expensive because 8 million people want to live here.  And when we were looking I did not see any 200K studios in any sort of a decent neighborhood.  You could only get a place this size either at least 1.5 hours away (each way) or in an area where you are likely to be mugged coming home.  Studios in good neighborhoods are far far more expensive.

We bought a 950sf co-op in Bronx for 425K and $1,300 monthly maintenance after 2 years of looking in all 3 boroughs and NJ.  And that was in 2010, AFTER  the housing crash.  That was the best choice for us in terms of commute, area and space that we could find.  I used to check out listings for hours every single day, like a job, and every weekend it was seeing place after place after place.  This is how much housing cost, and all the wishing and repeating that it is ridiculous does not change it.

LOL!!! Only the rich or very foolish would ever think about paying that price for such a small house. Wow, whoever bought that house doesn't know how much they got soaked! Hahaha! The yard from what I can see looks like it hasn't been cared for in a while. Sorry you can't fool me into buying that for that price, I bet the roof leaks, lol!

What a BOGUS article!  I live in Dallas and my 4 bedroom, 2 1./2 bath house is $170,000.  If the city I know about is so wrong, how can I trust the rest?

I got one better than all of this.  On my foreclosed home that I paid 185 initially in 2005, it sold for 52,000 in unincorporated Dekalb county (very close to Atlanta, GA) in 2011.  It was 5 yrs old, 3 bedroom, 3.5 baths with a garage (townhome) with 1800 square feet.  Wells Fargo decided to let us foreclose instead of working with us on a 35K balloon second.  We had never missed a house payment, but decided to walk away on our interest only mortgage.  They call my previous Townhome community the retirement community because anyone who owns a home there will be living there until retirement in order to bring the prices back up.  When we walked away, our home was valued at about 75K,but sold for far less.  So there are better deals in the Atlanta area than 200 K I can assure you.

The price is ridiculous......Even in a GOOD economy, how could anyone be STUPID enough to pay so much for do little?  There are Many, many larger houses for MUCH less money throughout the country. In MUCH more desirable locations!  This a joke and a rip-off.

Did you notice that a lot of the properties are only about 500 sq. ft.

Who would want to live in that small of a space for $200K!?
