I think this cool laundry basket should be added to the lists, its reasonable priced and folds away when not in use.

I have an apartment that might be considered spacious in Manhattan but is extremely small nonetheless. I found the $19.95 shower curtain with pockets a month ago and think it's brilliant! I'm all about furnishings that do double duty, but I've found mine mostly at Target, on sale - shelves with coat hooks underneath, storage ottomans, and a "treasure" chest I use as a coffee table in front of my convertible futon couch. Try and catch the 'back-to-school' sales; lots of dorm furnishings are made for very small spaces. Sales at Pier One are another good source. You can also try futon stores (or Ikea) for chairs that fold out to a single bed.

lovely ideas but quite pricey.  Wonder if you could send someone to find the same for 1/3 the price?

Lovely ideas in these slides, but are you serious? Can anyone afford 2,000 dollar washing machines --I mean the same person who has a tiny apartment? At the end of the slideshow, I realized that the first slide is much more realistic than I'd thought upon first impression. Gonna go get a sidejob--Teacher in SoCal.

I did like some of the ideas these products suggested. However, living in a small space is usually a necessity of a small budget. $900 coffee tables and $130 laundry baskets are ridiculous! Not everyone lives in urban areas where affordable space is simply small by nature and not demanded by budget.

@ lilredcurls39: Have you ever seen a NY apartment? There's a reason a lot of design for tiny spaces is found here. And those prices are reasonable when you want to achieve a quality of life in the spaces with which we have to work.

That said, my fiance & I found a great -- & cheap -- space-saver at Brylane Home dot com. They're small kitchen islands on casters that hide a trash can & offer a bit of storage. We have one for trash, on which stands our oft-used ice cream maker & one for recycling, on which stands my stand mixer & stores several baking needs.
