OMG! for what these people paid for landscaping they could have bought another home!  I would never pay what they did, especially when you can do it for a much lower price.  Outrageous!

What a friggin joke! They spent $20k on that first house? I only see about $1,000 of material in their front yard. Geez, if you're that desperate, drop the price of your house by $20k and you won't be out the money.

I think real creativity comes when you have a limited budget.  It forces you to think of the best ideas for your money.  I was hoping to get some good ideas from this, but all I got is "look what can be done if you are filthy rich".  Over $200,000 for a yard make over?  That is ridiculous and frivolous.  The sad thing is that I find this happens with pretty much all 'before & after' articles on MSN's Home & Garden.    They need to get more real.

This is a tragic loss of natural environment, drainage, habitat, and peace. If someone wants to ruin an lakeside environment, why not just move to a more densely populated area and build your water environment, especially with this kind of money. Really??? Sad and destructive, in my opinion.

I suppose you need to be in the industry to understand what it takes to create some of these projects. It's all about making the outside of your home as livable as the inside. What makes no sense to me is people who buy a home and don't take care of the outside. Those people would have been better off with a condo. Investing in the outside and creating places to spend time outside is a good thing. You paid for the entire property, why not enjoy the entire property. $20K is peanuts when it comes to developing outdoor spaces. I think most if not all the investments I see here are in line with what I would expect those projects to cost. Those pools alone were probably $100K+. So those of you who think it's a waste of money...Enjoy your pathetic eye sore of a yard because no one else will.

Ya. I would like some money saving tips on landscaping, stuff ppl can do to increase value with not much put in, i can do allot of that myself, planting is easy and if your good with leveling that fancy cement work isnt that hard either, just have to have a good imagination on what you want, and most of these projects are 70% labor... ppl got to make money i gues.

SPD2000, you are right when it comes to yard cleanliness and livability.  But think of it this way, average income for a median family is $50,000 national average. Most ppl are in that range or lower with the economy.  We dont have the cash to pay $100,000 plus for a pool or would take out a loan for that either cause we'd never pay it off.  So when you say to enjoy our pathetic eye soar of a yard, that discriminates the majority of the country, because we are diy's and all we need is some ideas to go from, which I get from this, but to include price tags on these things shouldn't be what MSN is about, even though some ppl like it.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments I've read here.  Get real, MSN...Given the current state of the economy I think money spent in frivolous projects like this rivals bailed-out company CEOs receiving bonuses.  They're both obscene.  Shame.
