at $50 a square foot you won't see any crowds rushing to change from FORMICA or CORIAN or even solid Birch

Wood Countertops made from wood recovered from the river makes beautiful countertops and their prices are affordable. I have seen some of these countertops, they are Green, Eco Friendly & Unique. The wood recovered from the river can be between 300 & 700 years old, Check out this website www.OldGrowthRiverwood.com where their wood comes from the Cape Fear River and they have been making reclaimed wood countertops for 14 years.
I found them on Twitter: www.twitter.com/OG_Riverwood

I don't know for sure, but it seems that nearly ALL eco friendly items, no matter where applied, are two to three times more expensive than the common counterpart. I am planning on making my own cement kitchen counter tops mainly because I don't care for scratchable plastic laminates or burnable surfaces, not because of the eco friendlieness or popular trends, but because of my personal preference.

These recycled glass counters are nowhere near as nice as the ones from Vetrazzo in California. I am not positive on the prices but I believe they are cheaper as well. www.vetrazzo.com

You can have any kind of corners you want, if you don't want square corners, you can get them round square, or you can even have them clipped. It's a custom cut, you can really have anything you want.

Cost is the problem with many of these "green" solutions. Green is all good but if it costs more, most of the time, count me out. Most people have trouble enough with paying for new things, never mind, paying more just so it's green. Make it cheaper to go green than to not go green and then most people will go green! Hmmm, what a concept!

Flyash??? I hope MSN author's have done a tiny bit of research on this??? Flyash is HIGHLY radioactive, granted it's only alpha type radiation, just the MOST damaging to human tissue, but the easiest to protect ourselves from... it's ONLY damaging when ingested... countertops??? Thanks, I'll take a pass on this eco-friendly deathtrap....

re-cycled isn't any cheaper - get a grip which should you choose, retirement above poverty, your child's education fund, or new/ recycled material counter tops. Insanity beyond words!
