Green is a myth.  Late 1970s, Green movement to hide the economic issues.  Climate Change is a bunch of BS.  I made changes to my life and my house to be more "green", because I wanted to, not because of some central planning.  My power bill (electic and gas) is $32 a month, all year round.  I have nuclear plant visible from my house Open-mouthed.

I am tired of the "Greens" telling me what to do.  Butt out and I will make good decisions on my own.

The house shown here uses all kinds of processed material.  Who cares.  I want a house that can last for my lifetime.  As to the younger generation, they don't give a rats behind for all of this stuff, they want jobs and the ability to succeed.  Greenie stuff doesn't make that happen.

What if what he says is true and the BIG guys are doing what they are always doing,

does that mean when I now longer pay for my Elect/bill and in fact get a rebate from those Big guys- I should cry for the ones who really will be in servitude.

Would I say to the stick your head in the sand guys, the big guys want you to be all you are: being duped for your money & your fealty. Although your efforts may be noble, take a good look at those selling you your ( I am smarter than every one else agenda) and you might stop indoctrinating you and your children into a life of servitude   I guess its THEM the Green Movement that took the snow off the winter skiing in places like Canada ! What mountain should we climb ? the one to no where or be one of  the Americans that  are still keeping your choices alive.  It is the market that will keep the slick and greedy from ever getting too far along.  At least do your home work and make them work for your money.  I am happy to live in a nation filled with people like yourself who warn us of their worries & fears in the hope of making our life better.

Be careful greenpeople.

You are all being duped for your money and your fealty.

Although your intention may be noble, take a good look

at those who are selling the green movement to you,

indoctrinating you and your children into a life of servitude.

Your green movement is two things:

a well crafted socialist/communist political agenda

and a marketing ploy to grab your cash while still allowed.

Read your unedited history books. This has all happened before.

The thin green veneer will crack and be forgotten when a few

have dominion over the masses.

How about a floor plan, and a breakdown of cost per sq/ft?  As a retired carpenter I can readily say that would provide a good assist with getting people on board with the philosophy and technology of this architectural endeavor.

I'm looking at some nice decor, but there isn't anything to show the traffic flow or room

layout and that's a major selling point.

"wowz at life" did not take the time to read the whole article and is apparently not educated in the efforts needed to move building towards more sustainable methods and materials.  In short, it it necessary to understand how economics and availability of materials play such a large part in why any movement towards sustainable building must be taken in steps.

Homes like this showcase cottage are necessary not only to educate the general public in the possibilities available while moving towards a greener lifestyle, but also to help develop the necessary supply chain of products and materials needed to move building in the right direction.

Remember that it makes no sense to build Yurts with dirt floors and expect the average family to desire to live there, no matter how much we "educate" them as to their responsibilities as stewards of the planet.  Homes of the future will still need to be attractive and stylish if there is to be any hope that people will begin to see the real alternatives available to them.

Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, there is no way to suddenly build homes that have zero impact, or even to transform existing structures to be green, if the economics do not work.  The only sensible approach is to continue to educate people and encourage suppliers to bring new and better products to market that will appeal to modern sensibilities.  Most anything else is just wishful thinking and daydreams.

Not sure how "green" all of this is. The greater cost of the higher efficiency equipment more than off sets the advantages. The fact that the government is still offering subsidies tells the real story. The bottom line is how much does the "green" system cost vs conventional and how much will it cost to run over its life time? The fact that a lot of the real cost is taken from taxpayers via subsidies doesn't change the real cost.  I would really love to see more cost effective solutions being developed, but I haven't seen many.
