Chain link is for prisons and ghettos.
'privacy' fences are for when either you, or your neighbor is making meth.
picket fences are for regular people,

A 6'high wood fence is not $10-$35 a linear foot. Try $17 to $23 a linear foot but way to provide the range of chain link, wood, and PVC with the $10-$35 a linear foot...installed price.
I really did not want to fence in my back yard several years ago but the reason I ended up doing this was because my neighbor was letting their dog use the bathroom in my yard and not cleaning up after it so I put up a 4ft high chain link fence around the backyard. I wanted wood but it was double the price and more maintenance due to fading and having to be pressure washed for mold so I decided on the chain link. While not beautiful it is functional and looks ok.
One must not forget that "good fences make great neighbors".
Why no comment on "good neighbor" fences? This style is required by many HOA's. The author is out of touch...
I, for one, would much rather put a more decorative and maintence heavy fence in my yard than an alumnium chain link fence. I'm in need of fencing in my yard and am actually looking at building my own wood fence with slats vs any commercially purchased fence. As Captain said, its about pride of ownership not ease of use necessarily.
