I could also buy a 4500sqft house in Ft Worth for about 200k. Maybe a lot less. That would have to be on a golf course and I'm trying to think about that. Dallas, Frisco, Arlington, Addison(all in same metroplex w/ ft worth) are 2-3 times the price of Ft. Worth and I would want about 4-6k SqFt on about 5-30 acres for a million around here unless your in Highland Park or Preston Hollow or something. A 5000Sqft house in Richardson would be $4-600k
This house has to be custom built on many acres.

Buying a decent  home right now in the right area is a good Idea considering the market. selling a home uhh....  Not so good right now .  I have lost 7 years worth of equity in my last home do to the economy.

Most of these properties may be listed at 1mil but it would probably take less to buy. Not that impressive a group. Also, real estate taxes vary widely across the country. I pay $8200 a year on a tax appraised property of 1.2mil. in North Carolina. Would be alot higher in several other states I've lived in. Bought first house in 1974 for $48,000. I skipped the housing bubble and walked away with almost $500,000 in equity for my retirement home. Housing was a great investment until recently.

One problem with a $1 mill house is you need $75k a year just to pay property taxes and maintenance on the thing.

If you can afford a million dollar home in Atlanta you're probably not going to live in East Lake. That neighborhood is an enclave of a few blocks surrounded by GHETTO.
