What you can buy in New Orleans at 10 price points
By Christopher Solomon of MSN Real Estate
Super Bowl XLVII is almost here, and this year's big game is in the Big Easy, New Orleans.
It's a big shot in the arm for this Gulf Coast city, which took a beating during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Has NOLA always intrigued you? You're not alone. Mardi Gras, po'boys, Bourbon Street — what's not to like? The New Orleans area also has an enormous range of homes, from $10,000 to more than $4 million.
Here's a look at what kind of home your money can get you at 10 price points.
NOTE: All descriptive information is courtesy of listing agents. Properties were on the market and listed as available at the time of publication in January 2013, unless noted otherwise.

New Orleans' St. Roch neighborhood flooded after Katrina. The area is coming back, but houses such as this one still haven't been repaired. It's definitely a fixer-upper — perhaps as a rental property.
The home's interior needs a total renovation. Outside, the facade was redone and a deck installed, but the home still needs a new roof. On the bright side, undeveloped land is going for the same price.

This updated, brick-front townhome may present a good opportunity for buyers and investors. The home, which is about 20 years old, was renovated about two years ago, and the roof was replaced about a year ago.
Upstairs are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Downstairs is a large den and a kitchen with a breakfast area. Out back is a covered patio with storage and parking. At the moment, a renter pays $900 a month — heck, that would pay your mortgage.

This ranch house in the Lake Terrace neighborhood is a bit deceptive. Behind its straightforward exterior is a home with big ceilings in the open living room, dining room and kitchen. Gutted to the studs and renovated in 2010, the home has three bedrooms; a fourth room could be converted into a bedroom, an office or a workout room.
The home has lots of efficient upgrades, with spray-foam insulation in the walls and on the rafters, plus a tankless water heater and low-E windows. Outside are two stamped-concrete driveways that can fit 10 cars — start planning that family reunion — and a large, fenced yard.
